Project Information Page
The project counts towards 25% of the final grade [No marks will be given for the whole project if your group is not using your assigned dataset]
In a group (formed in the first lecture), students work cooperatively to explore the practicality and the applications of statistics with the dataset provided.
The Project and the Dataset
As a team of senior consultants in the Operations Department at a Commercial Bank, you (and your team members) were assigned the job of revamping the Customer Service function at the branches. To get the project started, a research study at four branches was conducted to assess the effectiveness of a recent change in the customer account management (CAM) process. Details of the study are as follows:
A group of customers from each of the four branches were selected randomly and
invited to participate in the study.
Personal deposit and loan balances from these customers were extracted from the Bank’s
databases before the change took place.
Personal deposit and loan balances from these customers were also extracted from the
Bank’s two months after the change.
A simple survey was conducted to ask the customers involved about their experiences
with the change. A few variables from the survey were recorded and appended to the extracted deposit and loan file.
In addition to the evaluation of the effectiveness of the new CAM process, the senior management of the bank would like your team to come up with some advice related to other issues that can be revealed by the collected data.
Each row in the dataset corresponds to a customer. There are altogether 13 variables in each row.

I. The Tasks and Guidelines
Study the 13 variables thoroughly (provided in the Excel spreadsheet).
Establish a theme to your project. [Remember the two major tasks in the project: (i)
Evaluate the effectiveness of the new CAM process and (ii) Establish some other issues that can be revealed by the collected data.]
Utilize the variables to the fullest extent.
Identify some issues that require decision-making based upon the data provided.
Perform necessary analyses that are covered in the course (for example, graphs in
displaying data, descriptive statistics, probability, probability distributions, sampling distributions, confidence intervals, and hypothesis testing). Any topics not taught in the course will NOT be graded.
Do not delete any data for the project (even there are outliers). Ensure all your
results/calculations can be traced from the dataset.
Based upon the analyses, consolidate the results and provide managerial insights and
recommendation on the issues that you focus on.
II. The Deliverables
1. A typewritten report
Minimum of 2,500 words (with a maximum of 3,500 words), double-spaced, and in 12- point font (not including cover page, diagrams and tables, appendix, and references).
Your report must follow APA style format.
You are required to use external resources to support and substantiate your ideas. A minimum of 5 sound sources will be expected.
Covert your report in .pdf format for submission (i.e. submit as a .pdf file)
2. A “calculation” file
An excel file (or hand-written work) including ALL calculations that are performed in the report.
If you perform the calculations in Excel, clearly indicate on the “tab” what you are
performing on each worksheet. (Submit as a .xls file)
If you hand-write your calculation work, clearly indicate what you are performing at
the top of each page. (Submit as a .pdf file)
III. Components to be submitted
Due Date
1. Written Report (.pdf file) Oct 1st, 2022 (Sat) 11:00 pm
2. Calculation File (.pdf or .xls file) Oct 1st, 2022 (Sat) 11:00 pm
** Upload the two files to Canvas**
Other information
Include all necessary supporting statistics and graphs along with the report.
Ensure you have included relevant concepts in both descriptive statistics and probability,
and inferential statistics.
Provide managerial insights and recommendations.
Demonstrate creativity and flexibility in your approach.
Critical thinking is important. You can look for more than one way of addressing an
issue.
Justify and evaluate all decisions/recommendations made.
Whenever necessary, make your own assumptions.
Be creative! Be realistic! Be unique!
Ensure no other group has the same (or similar) ideas as your group’s.
Please be aware about the plagiarism issue as shown in the policy below:
