The Urban Farmers Initiative (UFI) is a Perth-based non-profit organisation that is interested in providing information and facilitating activities to assist city residents grow their own fruit and vegetables. As a new organisation they are interested in better understanding Perth residents’ home growing attitudes and behaviour, and community receptiveness of the various programs UFI provide. They have commissioned GB Consulting to conduct a research study to provide this information. Data for the study was collected from 453 Perth residents who were randomly selected from the Perth telephone directory. Respondents were asked to indicate their level of agreement or interest with many statements investigating their growing practices, desire for further information and intentions to participate in home growing activities. Respondents also provided demographic information on themselves including gender, age, location and family structure.
The UFI want to know which Perth residents are more likely to want to attend workshops that the UFI provide that help residents improve their growing practices. They believe there may be an age effect and have asked that this be investigated. Resident age was collected via a categorical variable. Participants were read the age categories and asked to indicate which one applied. Interest in participating in a workshop that can assist in becoming a better home grower was measured on a Likert- type scale ranging from 1=not at all interested to 5=very interested. An ANOVA test (n = 452) was conducted to address this question and the SPSS output for this is in ATTACHMENT 1. You are to answer the following questions in relation to this output.
