PRODUCT DESIGN STUDIO 1A

BRIEF
The Hegemonic Eye eliminates. It views its environments solely as a means of self-expression, detached from kinesthetic participation. It eliminates the involvement of the other senses in partaking in the experience of the environment. It is egoistic and experiences design from a distance, akin to a billboard, poster or advertisement. It lords over the other senses, weakening one's empathy and participation in the world.
This project presents the opportunity to question and conceive kinesthetic solutions for the visually impaired: solutions that incite participation and involvement beyond visual capabilities. You are tasked to design a toy that, through psychomotor play, helpsl develop the tactile and aural senses for a visually impaired child (4-7 years old). Your proposal is to incorporate one of the followingl mechanisms:
1. SPRING
2. MAGNET
Using wood as a medium (minimum 80% of your design), you are to critically question and acquire knowledge and understanding of its source, manufacturing processes, material properties, composition, potential and limitations, Through this, you are to creatively explore, manipulate and re-envision it in a manner offering new insights and novel impressions of the material. Your proposed toy is to be no larger than a typical shoebox in size and incorporate minimal secondary materials and components where necessary (maximum 20%).
You will be assessed based on the following MODULE LEARNING OUTCOMES:
Knowledge and Uudifferent
ldesign approaches and work within the parameters of a soecific proiect hrief
