The independent contact hours can include time spent working with a company when appropriate to the project being undertaken by the student.
Scheduled hours includes weekly meetings with the Project Supervisors, and any briefing sessions delivered to all students.

8. Attendance Guidance
Attendance at timetabled sessions or supervision meetings is expected.
9. Module Content
The student will undertake a large self-directed software project usually defined by the project supervisor. Projects can also be based at the Informatics Centre or with an industry partner.
Assessing commercial viability and feasibility of innovative ideas and/or researching the current state-of-the-art.
Business planning (assessment of business benefits, impacts, risks and return on investment, technology roadmap).
Project documentation.
Complete an innovative software development project following the software development life cycle, using project management techniques.
10. Aims
The aim of this module is for a student to undertake a large software development project that contributes to the research of the project supervisor, or in collaboration with an industry partner or based within the Informatics Centre. This module encourages the student to explore current and emerging technologies to develop innovative solutions that will keep up with the ever-changing requirements of the industry.
11. Methods of Learning and Teaching and Formative Assessment
Tutor-directed and self-directed study.
One-on-one tutorials with project supervisor.
Lectures.
Online learning.
Formative feedback will be online or verbal.
12. Learning Outcomes
1. Make concise, engaging and well-structured verbal presentations.
2. Construct an appropriate set of project documentation from the business case through to evaluation.
3. Create a business case for a technology-enabled business solution or a research-orientated project dissertation.
4. Design and implement a feasible, innovative and appropriate solution to the defined problem.
5. Critically reflect upon the success of the overall project.
