IFN623 Design Proposal for Advanced GenAI agent
(1)
Executive Summary
[Concise introduction to your proposed future GenAI agent. Summarise the improvements made to a base GenAI model (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini, CoPilot) in terms of Mimicry, Theory of Mind, and Motivation, and outline the novel accessibility solution you propose to integrate. Briefly highlight the expected benefits of these enhancements, in terms of the Advanced Design Principles you apply in the body of your proposal (Max. 250 words)]
(Note – in order to complete this assignment, you must engage with the unit materials from the relevant weeks’ content, and do your own thinking about the theories and techniques, as has been presented in this content. Due to the requirements for specificity to the unit (rather than generic information about the theories and techniques), this thinking and writing is not something that can be outsourced to ChatGPT or other program.)

Current Model Description and Improvement
[Sentence introducing the section]
Mimicry [around 200 words (not including annotated screenshots – which have no word limit)]
(Note the suggested word count for this sub-section is less than half a page – you will need to be very concise in your writing – making sure not to be repetitive and only include sentences that are relevant to the point you are making. Don’t include anything that doesn’t contribute to the requirements of each section, nor any additional unnecessary words)
(2 a) i.)
[Specific and measurable criteria (as many or as few as you believe necessary) that you believe determine when the GenAI model exhibits Mimicry, based on your own understanding from the unit materials on Mimicry)]
(This will be a similar process as in Assignment 1 where the first step was to determine criteria in order to design your tests of capabilities. Instead of tests, for Assignment 2, you will be coming up with criteria for designing ways to improve capabilities. The criteria will help you map from your understanding of the theory of Mimicry (as presented in this unit) to something that you can concretely see in the GenAI and thus improve upon via prompting.)
(2 a) ii.)
[Three (3) instruction prompts that you plan to use to prompt the GenAI model to improve its ability to meet each of your defined criteria (from what you have outlined above).
A 1-2 sentence justification for each prompt describing exactly how it will assist the GenAI to meet your criteria for Mimicry]
(Remember to justify each of your prompts. You can list them, but make sure that you tie them back to the criteria you outlined above to justify how they actually relate to these criteria and therefore represent a valid way of prompting the improvement of the capability of Mimicry)
(2 b))
[Screenshots of your interaction with the chosen GenAI showing the results of your instruction prompts for Mimicry. Annotate the screenshots, describing the extent to which each of your prompts achieved the outcome you had aimed for (i.e., in GenAI meeting the criteria you set out above)]
(Don’t forget to annotate your screenshots. Screenshots alone will not meet the assignment requirements as you need to demonstrate your ability to analyse the results of your prompts. If you are unsure how to annotate screenshots, you can instead refer to parts of the screenshotted conversation in short text below each screenshot.
Remember to explain how the part you refer to/annotate demonstrates an improvement to the capability based on your criteria for Mimicry.)
Theory of Mind [around 200 words (not including annotated screenshots – which have no word limit)]

(!!Specific tip for Motivation – consider motivation in terms of the demonstration of motivation from the GenAI)

Advanced GenAI Agent Design
[Sentence introducing the section]
Problem Statement [300 words max.]
(3 a.) [Identify a specific accessibility issue in current GenAI chatbots, supported by research (focusing on academic literature, using APA style referencing) and your own thinking and analysis. Justify why this issue needs to be addressed, considering the impact on users with this specific need as well as other users in the general population.]
(You can choose to focus on one of the following areas of accessibility, acknowledging that some needs can cross over into multiple areas:
i. Cognitive Accessibility: Needs related to processing complex information, maintaining focus, reading social cues, and/or managing rapid interactions, or
ii. Physical Accessibility: Needs related to physical movement, motor control, and the ability to interact with or input information into a system, or
iii. Sensory Accessibility: Needs related to accessing alternative representations of visual, auditory, or other sensory information.
Focus on the needs of users rather than working backwards from already available accessibility technologies like screen readers or keyboard assistants.
Also keep in mind the core aspect of accessibility – the access to the mind and/or knowledge of others. If you are unsure what is meant by this, you may need to review the Live Lecture recording from Week 8.
Remember – this is something specific to this unit, so ChatGPT or other GenAI won’t be able to do this part (or other parts of the assignment) for you – it requires your own understanding based on what you’ve learnt in this unit.)
Solution Statement [250 words max.]
(3 b.) [Propose modifications to your chosen GenAI agent to include an advanced accessibility solution tailored to the specific needs identified in your problem statement.
[Note that creativity and out of the box thinking is valued, however, should be grounded in practicality. This means that should come up with new solutions that are not currently implemented, but these should be achievable in the near-term (i.e., not requiring technologies/techniques that are closer to science fiction than reality)]
Implementation Plan [250 words max.]
(3 c.) [Outline the technologies, techniques, and tools required to implement the proposed features. Reference specific software, hardware, research, or methodologies that support the feasibility and effectiveness of your design, ensuring a practical and informed approach]
(Essentially, this section describes how your proposed solution would work in reality. You don’t have to be too specific in terms of a full set of requirements and development plan, rather, your task is to convince the reader that your proposed solution is possible using available techniques and technologies.)
(4)
Example Interaction
Script [This does not have a word limit but should involve around 15 responses/actions from the proposed GenAI agent (with associated inputs/actions from the user)]
(4 a.) Write an example script of the interaction a user who has the needs described in sub-section 3a) (your problem statement) would have with your advanced GenAI.
You can structure your script by the following pattern:
User: [user input]
GenAI Agent: [response]
User: [user response]
GenAI Agent: [response]
…
Etc.
Etc.]
(You should focus on a user who has the needs you identified as part of your problem statement – i.e., the type of user you wish to design your solution for, and specifically show how the solution you have developed would work in an interaction with this type of user – meeting their needs.)
(4 b.) Annotate parts of your script (above) by:
i. highlighting 4 examples from your script that show how your accessibility
solution is being demonstrated (these should each be 1-2 sentences referring to the part of your script, explaining how it demonstrates your accessibility solution)
ii. references to at least 3 Advanced Design Principles (as per list provided in unit materials), specifying where your example interaction demonstrates each design principle, and for each, justifying exactly how it demonstrates it (aim for 1-2 annotations for each chosen design principle, each annotation 2-3 sentences long).
(Don’t forget to mention the Advanced Design Principles. Remember, you have to refer to them specifically, rather than allude to them without using their specific names.
This is the only part of the assignment where you will specifically reference the Advanced Design Principles. The parts prior to this section of the Assignment refer to theories, which inform, but are distinct from the Design Principles. The Design Principles relate to the interaction and how it is designed, which is why they should be referred to in this example script.
As this is the only part that involves the Advanced Design Principles, it is important that you demonstrate your understanding of them. You don’t have to cover all of them, but where you mention an Advanced Design Principle, you need to make clear in how you connect it to the example, exactly how it is demonstrated in the example.
(5)
Risk analysis and ethical considerations (max. 200 words – concise writing)
[Briefly identify potential risks and ethical issues associated with implementing your design, including the impact on vulnerable user groups and possible misuse or unintended consequences (e.g., through misuse)]
(Remember that this is an exercise in imagining the future – how could your best intentions for the design of your GenAI Agent go wrong? What are the conditions that may trigger this and how can you avoid and/or prepare for these risks?)
(5)
References
[List references that you have cited in the body of your text above. Use APA style referencing.]
(Remember to only list references that appear in the body of your text above, and ensure that any reference cited in your text above is also listed as a full reference here, consistent with APA style referencing.)
