Assignment #1 : Senses ofthe City : What Do You Love Most About Your Favourite City?

Due: No later than September, 22, 11:45PM in Turnitin

INSTRUCTIONS

Answer the following questions in a few sentences (a couple of paragraphs at most). Your answer should be in sentence form (not in note form or bullet point). Your response should also show some thought and individuality (i.e. not generic answers that can be found on a website).

1) What is your favourite city and why? (For example, is it your home town, or have you lived there, or travelled there, or always imagined travelling or living there?)

2) What are some of your favourite things about that city? (e.g. monuments, parks, arts and culture, food scene, fashion and shopping, public spaces,   parks,  gardens, architecture, neighbourhoods or communities, weather, atmosphere, smells, sounds, etc.).

3) What are some of your favourite foods (cuisine/snacks/ treats, etc. )  in that city?

4) If you could describe the essence or feeling of that city in one word, what would that word be?

5) Is there a film about that city that for you captures that essence or feeling? Or if not, is there a film about any city which for you  captures its essence, either as you’ve experienced it personally, when you’ve been there,  or as you’ve pictured or imagined it?  Which film would that be, and why?

Your response for each question need not be more than a few sentences, at most, a couple of paragraphs.

Please do not respond in bullet or point-form. Use complete sentences, and take care to proof read, and also check spelling, grammar and punctuation before submitting.  Also remember to include page numbers.

This is not a research essay – your responses should be based on your own observations.

Therefore you should not be consulting or quoting from secondary sources.

THE SUBMISSION PROCESS

This assignment must be submitted no later than Monday, September 22 at 11:45PM. Upload the paper to the Turnitin submission page provided in eclass, by the designated deadline.

Read carefully: Please give yourself plenty of time to upload your work (minimum 30 minutes), in case eClass is working slowly. Do not wait until the very last moment , because if there is an issue with uploading and you ‘time out’ and miss the deadline, your paper will be counted as late. It doesn’t matter when you start to upload your work: it must be fully submitted before the deadline passes.

The penalty for late submissions is 5% per day, including weekends.
