Assessment overview
In this assessment,using the Mason Brothers building and the University of Auckland's upcoming new Recreational and Wellness Centre building as case study buildings,you will show your understanding of sustainable principles,applications and innovations.In addition,you must discuss passive design features and their environmental impact using appropriate rating tools and sustainable development goals.Please refer to the resources folder on the Stream site to access published case study reports relevant to this assessment.
In this research-based written assessment,cite current(published within the last 5years),relevant and reliable publications(articles,books,reports,magazines,lecture materials,websites,etc.)using APA referencing style when fulflling the assessment brief.The word limit,the number of minimum citations required,and the marks allocated are given against each item.Use referenced figures, tables,and photos where appropriate to support your answers.
Please note that hand-written assignments are not accepted.The assignment must be submitted to the online assignment submission dropbox on the Stream site.
Assessment brief
Your report should have the following structure (please refer to below marking rubric to understand mark allocation).
1.Summary:Provide a summary of your report,including aims,key findings,and the study's key conclusions(250-word limit, 5 marks).Hint:write this at the end,when the rest of the report is complete.
2.Introduction:Provide an introduction to your report.In your introduction,provide background information on the Mason Brothers building in Wynyard Quarter.Summarise the innovative sustainable features included in the Mason Brothers building.Explain how those features help achieve sustainability principles in building design and construction(300-word limit,10 marks).
3.The United Nations'Sustainable Development Goals(SDG):Discuss any relationship between the sustainable features included in Mason Brothers buildina and the United Nations'SDGs(300-word limit,10 marks).
4.Analysis of passive design features:Analyse four passive design features embedded in Mason Brothers building.Compare and contrast those four passive design features against the passive desian features embedded in Hiwa-The University of Auckland Recreation Centre I Warren and Mahoney building regarding their operatina principles and environmental impact. Provide supplementary images and references to literature(1000-word limit,40 marks).
5. LEED rating system: Discuss how the University of Auckland's upcoming new Recreational and Wellness Centre would meet the following goals of the LEED rating system.
L. Reduce contribution to global climate change(250-word limit,5 marks).
II. Enhance individual human health(250-word limit,5 marks).
Ⅲ. Protect and restore water resources(250-word limit,5 marks).
IV. Protect and enhance biodiversity and ecosystem services(250-word limit,5 marks).

■ Keep a backup of allyour work-you will not be given an extension if you lose your work or your computer is stolen orcrashes.
■ Extensions to the due date for the assessment are only given for genuine reasons
such as sickness or a family crisis.Proof is required in a medical certificate or family death notice.If there is no proof,then no extension will be given.
■ There is a late penalty of 3 marks per day,and work submitted more than 7 days late will not receive any marks.
■ Plagiarism will be penalised.The report will go through Turnitin,which will check for
any copied material.Avoid bulk quotes-write in your own words.Do not copy from other students.Do not lend your report file to anyone else.Where two student reports have identical material,both students will be penalised.If the report is plagiarised,the student may be reported for academic misconduct.
