Diaspora and Pop Culture

A critical media analysis is essentially a critique (or review) of popular culture and media that you come across. In this class we will be doing a lot of watching, listening and reading a lot of popular culture media—which includes but is not limited to TV shows, music/musicians/music videos, poetry, art works, TikTok videos/trends, Instagram trends/aesthetics, news items, etc. I will provide examples if needed.
Consider the following questions to guide you: What is the media object portraying? How is it portraying this (positive? negative?)? How does it depict that specific diaspora community? Is it influenced by politics or not? How does it make you feel? What are the consequences or impact of these media and pop culture representations? What is important about what this object is trying to say??After every question, always think about?WHY?this pop culture media object is doing something and does it shift cultural conversations. If so, what are they??
You will have already chosen a?DIASPORIC?pop culture object. For your Final report/review you must use?two?academic?course readings and?one popular reading?to support your argument.?
Your final must be 4-5 pages double spaced, Times New Roman Font Size 12. Please include your name, date, and class info in the header
