Diaspora and Pop Culture
Assignment Requirements
This midterm will serve as a build up to your Final. You must select a DIASPORIC pop culture item, this includes but is not limited to a TV Show, Movie, Podcast, Song, Poem, Music Video, etc. In 1-2 double spaced pages you will reflect on why you selected the object and how does it relate to course themes (migration, exile, gender, sexuality, race, etc.)
This is a reflection piece, and while that requires no additional reading or sources, you must have a well thought out and clearly articulated argument. Think about the issues you have read about thus far in the course, how and why is your selected object a part of this lineage of Diasporic pop culture. What are the creators of the object trying to say?
You may rely on your discussion questions and presentations thus far to help you think about what to say on your object. You may also submit a video or audio recording explaining your choice as long as it is accompanied with a script.
Reflections must be in Times New Roman and Font Size 12. Please include your name, date, and class info in the header.
Submit 1-2 well-formulated and thought-provoking questions related to the readings and popular media you read, watch, and/or listen to. This will be the primary measure of your participation in the course. Each question should have a one or two sentence set up in which you outline what stuck out the most from what you read, watched, and/or listened to, how it relates to the week's theme, and finally the question that the readings and/or popular media left you wondering.
