Deliverables: • Synthesis report essay (750 words limit, up to 2 pages x A4 paper)
• Design iteration report (500 words limit, up to 2 x A3 sized
paper, including diagrams, figures and tables, if needed)
Submission: Via 'Assessment Submission' section on Moodle
Deadline: April 14th, 11:00 am
SECTION B: PROJECT INFORMATION & DELIVERABES
Aims: The aims of this project are for students to:
• demonstrate the understanding the roIe of LCA in the process of designing a buiIding
• understand and expIore the Life CycIe impact different design aIternatives
• demonstrate independent criticaI thinking, technicaI skiIIs and criticaI anaIysis in design Project brief:
1. Essay: You are asked to write a synthesis report of the course material of all the themes covered in class (e.g., Life Cycle Analysis, embodied carbon, operational carbon, circular economy).
• A synthesis report includes a summary of the main points raised in the course lectures and videos, required readings and other materials. More on this here:

Maximum word count: 750 (+/- 10%) words
• In your essays, emphasis should be given to:
o extent of material covered
o clarity, essay structure
o language, use of arguments
• You are expected to refer to at least 2 peer-reviewed sources in your essays (these
should be from a reputable well-cited publications e.g. Google Scholar, science direct
etc. (Not Wikipedia!)). Guidance on citations, references and avoiding plagiarism can be found here: https://library-guides.ucl.ac.uk/referencing-plagiarism
2. Design iteration: You are asked to select one theme of your choice and independently
perform one iteration of your group design work, focusing on that theme. For example, if you wish to focus on (operationaI energy performance9 一 you should independently modify your group design project and improve your buiIding9s operationaI energy performance.
(50% of the mark)
In your report, emphasis should be given to:
o evidence for deep understanding of the selected topic
o quality of the design iteration execution
o originality
o critical analysis and synthesis of simulations & design
