Students are assessed on the basis of one piece of coursework which forms 100% of the final mark. The coursework essay for this module is 3,000 words long (with 10% allowance, references excluded), typed in font size 12pt size and with at least 1.5 spacing.

Choose one of the following essay titles:
1. How effective are various forms of international private regulation (such as MNC codes of conduct, International Framework Agreements and CSR policies) in ensuring adherence to the ILO’s core labour standards?
2. Over the last 25 years the ILO is argued to have shifted from a focus on detailed rights at work to a broader emphasis on 5 core labour standards. Critically analyse how effective this shift has been in relation to whether this focus comprehensively protects workers?
3. Why are severe forms of labour exploitation including ‘modern slavery’ and child labour such enduring features of international supply chains, and what are the challenges to internationalised firms deriving from these features?
4. Evaluate the main mechanisms by which the state regulates health and safety at work and how this varies internationally. What challenges may the state face in its attempt to improve health and safety at work and why?
5. How does the attempt to enhance equality at work through legislation and state regulation vary across countries and why?
6. Critically compare and analyse the nature of employment regulation and law within two national contexts. To what extent are these national approaches effective or otherwise in promoting decent work and the interests of employers?
