Question 1 - Girth Calculations (25 marks):

Refer to the provided set of drawings, and calculate the following girths. You should use the standard DIM sheet provided and show all the waste calculations.

1.   External girth of the external wall (5 marks)

2.   Centreline girth of the external wall (5 marks)

3.   Centreline girth of the foundation (5 marks)

4.   External girth of the foundation part A and part B (5 marks)

5.   Internal girth of the foundation part A and part B (5 marks)

Question 2 - Approximate Quantities (45 marks):

Using  the  same  drawing  provided  and  the  standard  DIM  sheet,  calculate  the  following approximate quantities. If any dimensions are not shown, you may make sensible assumptions and clearly list out all the assumptions in the Query Sheet provided.

1.   Excavation for trenches (5 marks)

2.   Concrete for foundation part A and part B (5 marks)

3.   Formwork for foundation part A and part B (10 marks)

4.   90 mm thick External wall – (Timber frame + insulation) (10 marks)

5.   External wall finishes – Brick veneer cladding (5 marks)

6.   Floor finishes (carpets and Tiles) (10 marks)

Question 3 - Cost Indices and Cost Databases (30 marks):

Task 3.1 (10 marks)

You are consultant quantity surveyor. You have the cost database of your company’s projects below:

Project 1:

Base project completed in June 2020

Material cost: $700,000, Labour cost: $300,000

Project 2:

Current project completed in 2024

Material cost: $840,000, Labour cost: $390,000

Your manager asked you to:

- Calculate the indices for labour and materials over the period 2020-2024

- Calculate and the composite index of overall cost increase, over the period 2020-2024, considering the weighted contribution of materials (70%) and labour (30%) .

Task 3.2 (10 marks)

Your company have been approached by the Ministry of Education team to prepare a budget estimation for a new school in Auckland. The MoE has provided the historical cost data for similar projects in September 2021 in the table below. The construction of the new school is planned to start in June 2025.

You are asked to complete the table below using the RLB Tender Price Index Calculator: Link.
