SIT378 Team Project (B) - Execution and Delivery

Trimester 2, 2024

Welcome

This is the second of two undergraduate capstone units for students within the School of Information Technology. In this

unit, students will extend their experiences of IT projects by executing a real-world, industry-relevant project and synthesise knowledge and technical as well as other professional skills acquired during their course. Students will join a team as senior  members, and provide guidance and mentoring to Team Project (A) students. As a team, they will apply agile project

management methods to iteratively create enhancements to a unique IT product, service or solution in a highly flexible and    interactive manner. Students will identify a potential problem or technical gap and experience how to solve it using methods, algorithms and techniques pertinent to the field of IT. Students will be required to further formulate necessary design and/or development strategies, work collaboratively with peers to manage and conduct the implementation of the project and

demonstrate outcomes achieved against project goals and targets.

In this final capstone unit, students will demonstrate achievement of course learning outcomes by drawing upon a

combination of work they contribute to the project and work completed in other units, respectively. Together, the capstone units will guide students to effectively engage with and contribute to industry-relevant projects, to communicate most

important project factors to stakeholders, focus on project delivery, and enable them to manage IT projects within defined scopes and schedules.

This Unit Guide provides you with the key information about this unit. Please read it carefully and refer to it frequently

throughout the study period. Your unit site also provides information about your rights and responsibilities. We will assume you have read this before the unit commences, and we expect you to refer to it throughout the study period.

read all materials in preparation for your learning activities and follow up each with further study and research on the topic

start your assessment tasks well ahead of the due date

read or listen to all feedback carefully and use it in your future work

. attend and engage in all educator facilitated (scheduled) learning activities and other learning experiences as part of the unit design

You will be advised of any other staff involved in teaching this unit via the unit site.

Throughout the trimester you can post all your academic queries in the discussion section of the unit site. You are

About this unit

Unit development in response to student feedback

Every trimester, we ask students to tell us, through eVALUate, what helped and hindered their learning in each unit. You are strongly encouraged to provide constructive feedback for this unit when eVALUate opens (you will be emailed a link).

In previous versions of this unit, students have told us that these aspects of the Unit have helped them to achieve the learning outcomes:

Working collaboratively in teams.

Feedback provided to students on tasks and during panel sessions.

Focusing on time management and making sure that you get started as early as possible.

The following aspects of the unit have been introduced, enhanced or retained in response to feedback from students who have undertaken this unit in previous trimesters:

Refinements of unit tasks to remove unnecessary duplication, and to clarify expectations.

Incorporating sharing opportunities in class to support student teams.

Providing additional staff support for teams.

Academic mentors are introduced to provide weekly feedback to students.

If you have any concerns about the unit during the trimester, please contact the unit teaching team - preferably early in the trimester - so we can discuss your concerns, and make adjustments, if appropriate.
