MODULE 3 ASSIGNMENT

This assignment is worth 18%. It consists of the 4 tasks. Each task is worth 10 points for a total of 40 points. The tasks will be evaluated for both content (9/10 points) and style (1/10 points).

Please complete the following items:

1.    Answer the following questions, writing a paragraph or two for each:

a) Who are you? (List 5 social roles and 5 behavioural characteristics.)

b) Name two of these behavioural characteristics that best define you, i.e., are most

fundamental to your sense of self. How did you come to think of yourself in terms of these characteristics?

c) Which of the 10 identities you listed are most salient in your daily life? Why? d) Which are you most strongly committed to? Why?

2.    Each individual’s identity is an intersection of markers such as class, race or ethnicity, gender,

sexuality, age, etc. Using the concepts discussed in this module, answer the following questions, writing 1 page for each:

a) Which of these aspects of your identity (class, race or ethnicity, gender, sexuality, age, etc.) is most important to you? Which is least important? Why?

b) How might that most important aspect have impacted your social interactions and experiences?

3.   Think of an experience of self-conflict in your own life. In 2 pages, identify the significant others or reference groups that were the source of the conflict, and explain how the conflict arose and whether it was resolved (and if so, how).

4.    Write a 2-3-page critique (critical review) of Du Bois’ “Of Our Spiritual Strivings” using the concepts you learned in this module as much as possible.

An excellent response:

.     is clear and concise;

.     is marked by a superior writing style (grammar, punctuation, spelling, diction, logical progression, and structure);
