SCENARIO

Background

In each era,a distinct label emerges to characterize a generation, ranging from Baby Boomers to Gen Alpha. The spotlight is currently on Generation Z which includes individuals born between the late 1990s and early 2010s. Distinguished as true digital natives, Gen Z grew up in a world of online shopping, content saturation and technological conveniences.

Despite being hailed as the most knowledgeable age group of their time, the reality for Gen Z is more complex. Having grown up inanera of instant access to information through the Internet, they are strongly connected via social media, where trends and viral videos shape their collective experience. As they approach adulthood and look forward to the future, one might assume that Gen Z faces fewer challenges and stress. This notion, however, is far from correct.

A recent study (November 2022) from Cigna International, a global health service provider reveals the well-being of Singaporeans within the Gen Z demographic. The "360 Well-Being" report entitled "Stressed in Singapore – Employer Opportunity," reveals alarming statistics. A staggering 95% of Singaporeans aged  18 to  24  (Gen Z) are  identified  as the  most stressed, experiencing  profound emotional impacts. More than half of this demographic reported heightened anxiety or increased feelings of depression.

This worrying trend is not limited to Singapore, as similar research conducted throughout the world highlight the pervasive stress experienced by Generation Z. Despite their digital prowess and connection, it is clear that the difficulties faced  by Generation Z are complex and  necessitate a comprehensive understanding of their well-being.

Assume you are working for the Ministry of Health. The Minister, Mr ABC is interested to find out the perceived stress levels and their effects on Gen Z. He is particularly interested to know if there is a difference between male and female Gen Zers.

You need to focus on only students or young working adults aged between  18 to 24 for this assignment.

The Minister has commissioned your group to investigate the following and draft a report:

•    How stressed have Gen Zers been in the last month? Compare male/female

•   What are the main stressors for Gen Zers? Compare male/female

•    How has stress affected Gen Zers emotionally? Compare male/female

•    How has stress affected Gen Zers physically? Compare male/female

•    How has stress affected Gen Zers’ relationship with family, friends etc.? Compare male/female

•    How do Gen Zers manage stress? Compare male/female

•   Where do Gen Zers seek help if they are unable to cope with stress? Compare male/female

•   Why  may  Gen Zers  avoid seeking  help  if they  are  unable  to  cope with stress? Compare male/female

•   What can be done to reduce stress experienced by Gen Zers? Compare male/female

•   Other relevant questions

TASK 1 - GROUP REPORT WRITING

1.          You are to work in groups of 4 (min) or 5 (max) for this project. No exception will be entertained.

2.          All groups must be formed in the first lecture. Please submit the names of your group

members to your lecturer during the lecture. Clearly indicate the group leader of the team.

3.          Your team will have to conduct a survey to determine the answers for the questions stated above  and compile a report. You would need to design and administer a questionnaire to survey 30 young adults aged between 18 and 24. It is important to find out their demographic details (gender, educational level etc). This information can be used to compare and cross tabulate with other variables for data analysis. The data that you have collected should be attached to the appendix of your report.

4.          Based on your survey findings and analysis, do make appropriate recommendations

(strategies/steps/actions) that the Ministry of Health can take with regard to enabling Generation Zers to cope with stress.

5.          Your team  oral presentation will be made before the Minister, Mr ABC and the Executive Committee (Refer to pg. 6 onward).  You are strongly encouraged to examine other related aspects that will be useful for the Committee.

A. SUGGESTED REPORT FORMAT

1.          The report (30%) should consist of the following sections:

2.          The main text of the report should be typed with 1.5 line spacing, using font size 12 (Times New Roman).

3.          Refer to the marking scheme for report writing (CANVAS) for abreakdown on how your report would be assessed.

4.          The  main text  of the  report (including introduction, findings & analysis, conclusions and recommendation) should be between 10-14 pages. Marks will be deducted for exceeding the page limit. You should include relevant charts and graphs in your main report.

B. REPORT SUBMISSION

The Report is due on 6 February 2024 at 11.59am. Please ensure that you submit your assignment before the cutoff time. If your assignment is submitted too close to the cutoff time, you may not be able to submit successfully and may get an error page instead.

The Report must be submitted online by the Group leader via CANVAS. Please read the instructions provided in CANVAS carefully before submission.

1.          Please ensure that your Report is submitted in a single word document in MS Word format.

2.          The cover page should include all group members’ FULL names (according to the student

register), Student IDs and email addresses.

Please adhere to the sample cover page format shown below:

4. IMPORTANT: You will also receive a Confirmation Email from [email protected] in

5.         A group assignment implies that every group member participates actively until submission. It is each member’s responsibility to check and ensure that the correct single group report document is submitted online. If the Group leader is not available, another member should  takeover and submit for the group. “Group leader is ill” or other reasons will not be entertained. Students should have a copy of their group assignment.

(c) I understand that plagiarism and/or collusion is a serious offence. Students caught for plagiarism, collusion or allowing their work to be plagiarized will be subjected to SIM University's disciplinary procedures.

2. GROUP ORAL PRESENTATION (10%)

You will have to deliver a group presentation based on your report.

A. SUGGESTED PRESENTATION FORMAT

•           Title slide - title, name your organization and names of team members

•           Agenda/ Outline of presentation

•           Introduction - background, purpose, scope and limitations of the study, etc.

•           Sampling and Methodology - method of data collection, sample size and demographic details of respondents, etc.

•            Main Findings and Analysis

B. INSTRUCTIONS

1. Each member of the group is to make a presentation on a chosen part of the report.   E.g., the  first speaker may present the introduction, while the second speaker may present on two of the findings and soon.

2. Each student should speak between 3 minutes (min) to 4 minutes (max). Students are not

allowed to use cue cards, notes etc during the presentation. Once the individual presentations are completed, a Question & Answer session will follow.

3. Each speaker will be assessed individually for the presentation. Please note that students who speak for less than 3 minutes will be awarded an “F” grade immediately.

4. All presentations must be accompanied by relevant visual aids; Power Point slides being the minimum requirement. You may also use role-play, charts, videos etc. to enhance your presentation.

5. All presentations will be made during lecture, spread over 2 to 3 lessons: Lectures 12, 13 & 14.   You will be assigned a specific timeslot for your presentation.  No changes are allowed.  If you fail to make your presentation at the assigned time, you will be given a ZERO mark.

IF YOU ARE ABSENT FOR YOUR GROUP PRESENTATION

6. If you have a valid MC and wish to reschedule the presentation,

a. Email your reason for absence and attach your supporting documents to he10@sim.edu.sgand your lecturer by the next working day.

b. Be prepared to do your presentation in the following lesson, unless otherwise stated.

c. For students whose presentationslots are rescheduled, he/she MUST have the management’s approval in order for the 10% assessment weightage to be graded. In the event if there is no

approval granted by the management for your absence from the original slot, your rescheduled presentation will not be graded, and you will get ZERO marks for this component.

d. If there is no available slot for rescheduling, the management will review your case accordingly based on your appeal and submitted documents.

ON THE DAY OF YOUR PRESENTATION

7. Students are to submit their Oral Presentation Marking Scheme (DOWNLOAD FROM CANVAS), one set per group and arrange their FULL names (according to the student register) in the order they arepresenting e.g., first speaker, the second speaker etc. These are to be submitted to your lecturer on the day of your presentation.

8. On the day of your presentation, the group leader must submit a hard-copy (printed presentation hand-out - 6 frames per page) of your presentation with a front cover that includes the following information the full names (AS in IC or Passport) of all the group members.:
