.     Each answer must not exceed 800 words.

.    The word count does not include any diagrams, tables or figures.

.     References can be included in each answer.

.    A reference list for each answer is not included in the word count.

.     Use Harvard Referencing Style e.g. (Millar et al, 2021)

This open-book examination will be marked out of 100.

Submit your answers containing all the work you wish to have marked as a single PDF file, with each page in the correct orientation, to the appropriate dropbox on the module’s Moodle page. Identify your answers by mentioning the relevant question number. Follow the guidance on maximum word counts for each question.

Use the standard naming convention for your document: [Student ID]_[Module Code]. Write your student ID number at the top of each page of your answers. Do not include your name.

Although you may use any notes or resources you wish to help you complete this open-book examination, the academic misconduct policy that applies to your coursework also applies here. Staff are not permitted to answer assessment or teaching queries during the period in which your open-book examination is live. If you spot what you think may be an error on the exam paper, note this in your submission but answer the question as written.

1   Discuss the differences between two theories of ethics, providing examples of how they might be employed in (a) justifying and (b) criticising the use of non-human animals by humans, such as farm or companion animals.

2   Describe the Ethical Matrix (EM) and discuss how it can be applied to analyse the  human use of non-human animals in farming. Critically assess the strengths and limitations of this framework.

3   With reference to European Union (EU) and United Kingdom (UK) legislation, describe and discuss the Three Rs concept proposed by Russell and Burch in 1959. Discuss the ethical limitations of the Three Rs concept.
