Calculus I

Course Outline

Teaching hours: June 19 - July 20, MTWR 9:00 - 11:00

Prerequisite: A high school course in functions.

Recommended Textbook:

The designated textbook for this course is “Calculus” (9th edition, Single Variable Calculus Early Transcendentals) by James Stewart. That being said, if you possess any other text cov- ering all the material, you may not wish to buy the required text.  In particular, any prior edition is more than satisfactory.  Although a review will be provided at the beginning of the term, students are assumed to have sufficient understandings of material from Chapter 1 and Appendix D of the book.

Homework: There will be weekly problem sets delivered throughout this semester.  Each problem set consists of some long answer questions. The goal is to help you understand the material of the week, and help you prepare the exams of this course. Students do not need to hand-in their work for these problem sets.  Solution manual will be posted shortly after

homework collection.

Exams: There will be three exams, two midterms and a final.  Detailed date and venue for

the final will be confirmed by the University.

Grading: The final mark for the course will be calculated as 10%Participation + 20%Midterm

I + 20% Midterm II + 50% Final

3. Differentiation rules (Chapter 3)
