L1022: Marking Scheme for the Project

The project document contains instructions on the analysis you should perform on the data. You have received your data set via email. The data sets are different across students and you need to use the one you were sent. Once you have opened your data in Excel, perform the analysis as stated in each question in your project document.

The suggested general format for writing up the project and marks available for each section is as follows:

A. Give your project a title and begin with a short introduction summarising your project. Define your variables and identify the questions you will address using the provided data. You can use sources here to give background information on the topic. [10%]

B. Descriptive statistics (question 1): calculate descriptive statistics and summarise the key features of the data using suitable graphs. Provide a written interpretation. [10%]

C. Test for differences across sex (question 2): make sure you clearly write out all steps of the test and interpret your results. [10%]

D. Test for differences across income groups (question 3): make sure you clearly write out all steps of the test and interpret your results. [10%]

E. Correlations for question 4: find the correlation coefficients and comment on them. [5%]

F. Correlations for question 5: find the correlation coefficients, test their statistical significance, and comment on the results. [10%]

G. Simple linear regression (question 6): show your regression output and discuss. [10%]

H. Interpret the R-squared from the regression and test whether it is statistically significant (question 7). [10%]

I. Multiple linear regression (question 7): show the new regression output and discuss. How does this differ from the output in question 6? Why? Which regression model do you think is better? [15%]

J. Prediction (question 9): Show your workings and interpret your result. [5%]

K. Conclusions. What are the overall findings of the project? [5%]

Remember that top marks will only be awarded to clearly presented, accurate and well written answers. For example: tables presented without supporting explanation will not score high marks.
